Hand-Painted Mughal Miniature Cabinet – Court Scenes, Gold Ground & Crimson Vine
A Cabinet as Art Object.
Every surface of this cabinet is painted. The top carries a Mughal court procession scene — courtly figures, attendants and elephants moving across a gold ground with a green border. The two upper drawers are painted with gold-ground scrolling leaf vine. The two main doors each hold a full Mughal miniature: a nobleman and lady in a garden, gold sky, dark cypress trees, in the measured, jewel-toned style of the Mughal court ateliers. Each door painting is framed within a hand-painted red inner border and green leaf vine outer border. The entire cabinet surround is crimson red with a dense hand-painted green leaf and berry vine repeat covering every edge and side surface. Iron hinges, iron centre door pull, four bun feet.
Use it as a sideboard, a bar cabinet, a display cabinet, or simply as a painting that happens to have doors.
