Hand-Carved Mango Wood Daybed Bench – Whitewash Flower Medallion & Diamond Lattice Backrest
All Carving. No Colour.
A hand-carved mango wood daybed and bench in the Rajasthani tradition, finished in a whitewash and silver-grey distressed wash that lets the carving speak entirely through light and shadow. The backrest is the showpiece. The crest rail arches to a peak at the centre, where a large carved flower medallion sits flanked by scrolling acanthus vines — the whole crest framed by a scalloped arch border. Below the crest, three rectangular carved panels carry an intricate interlocking diamond lattice and Gothic tracery fretwork pattern. Below those, a wide horizontal frieze band runs a continuous carved acanthus leaf repeat across the full width. The seat is plain smooth planked wood in the same whitewash finish — ready for cushions. The front apron carries a continuous carved repeating fleur-de-lis and trefoil motif. Four turned and carved column legs support the piece, with ball finials at the top back corners.
Works as a daybed, a hallway bench, a living room statement piece, or the foot of a bed.
